Durham Advanced Motorcyclists 2015

DAM Award

What a year for Durham Advanced Motorcyclists…

Formed in 1995 at our first BikeWise show & now stronger than ever having this year won the IAM Motorcycle Group Achievement Award for 2015 (The second time in three years)
The group will put you through a Skills For Life Training package (based on Police System riding) & the end result is an IAM Test pass (& you becoming a safer rider - for life)

Congratulations to the thirty eight riders (see below), who have passed their IAM test in the last year (of which some attended the Durham Constabulary motorcycle section's Bikesafe training day prior to joining DAM)

Congratulations also to the  nine group observers who successfully completed an IMI test and have become IAM National Observers (another great result for the group) : Bill McCready, Dave Badcock, Chris Allison, James Finlinson, Dave Walker, Len Potts, Dave Tindale, Don Russell & Keith Barton

Many Thanks to the committee for all their unseen work & to all the observers & members of the training team who put countless hours of their own time into the training of motorcyclists in this region.

Here's wishing the group continued success into 2016.

Paris

A fitting tribute on Durham Cathedral …

Thoughts are with the families and friends of those who lost their lives in Paris last night and also all the emergency services who dealt with the incidents last night.

Durham Advanced Motorcyclists win national award

DAM Award

Durham Advanced Motorcyclists (DAM) have won the IAM National Motorcycle Group Achievement award for 2015.

The award was presented to long standing members (& Group Chairman & Secretary), Brian Clements & Bill McCready at the The IAM national Motorcycle Conference at Birmingham on Sunday and is a tremendous recognition by IAM of the work done voluntarily by group members to promote road safety & improve the riding standards of local riders. .

The group was formed in February 1995 at Police HQ & officially ‘launched’ at the first BikeWise show on the 8th May 1995 and has grown & grown year on year, eventually splitting to form Northumberland Advanced Motorcyclists (NAM as well as our own DAM.

Numerous accolades have been bestowed on the group over the years, but this is the second time in three years that DAM has won this national award.

As they enter into their next decade it is hoped that  present & future members will continue to maintain the standards of the club over the coming years.

Seat Belts save lives and help to prevent horrific injuries…

Cleveland and Durham Police are supporting a Europe-wide seatbelt campaign next week.
The initiative will see officers stopping vehicles where drivers or passengers are not wearing their seatbelts from Monday 7th September as part of the work carried out by TISPOL, the European traffic police network.
And with schools having just gone back across the region, police will be paying particular attention to parents dropping off or picking up their children
Under current legislation, drivers are responsible for ensuring that suitable safety restraints are worn by all passengers under 14 years old. Children must use an appropriate child car restraint for their weight until they are 135cm tall or their 12th birthday, whichever is first.
As seatbelts do not fit children correctly, an appropriate child car restraint is needed to offer the same level of protection as a seatbelt does for adults. Passengers over 14 years are responsible for wearing their own seatbelt and can therefore face prosecution.
Failing to wear a seatbelt now carries a penalty of £100, should motorists be given an on-the-spot fine. Prosecution can lead to a maximum fine of up to £500.
