The BikeWise team has been presented with a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award.
The honour is in recognition of a string of initiatives including ‘BikeWise’ the event, held every summer since 1995 at police headquarters, ‘BikeWise Training’ – a scheme designed to improve riders’ skills run in conjunction with Durham County Council,
BikeWise MiniBike club for young riders, 6-16yr old and various other events. Each year the motorcycle section stages an ‘Easter Egg Run’. Hundreds of bikers team up with the police in a ride-out from Durham to Darlington and back, delivering presents to children at local hospitals on the way. The motorcycle section is constantly 'engaging' with motorcyclists throughout the region and actively assists the Durham Advanced Motorcyclist group.
The award was presented on Sunday 27th September by Karen Cooke, director of motorcycle safety at MCIA (Motor Cycle Industry Association) at The Great North Air Ambulance Mystery Ride out / BikeWise Mini Bike Club meeting at Police HQ Aykley Heads, Durham.
