Seat Belts save lives and help to prevent horrific injuries…

Cleveland and Durham Police are supporting a Europe-wide seatbelt campaign next week.
The initiative will see officers stopping vehicles where drivers or passengers are not wearing their seatbelts from Monday 7th September as part of the work carried out by TISPOL, the European traffic police network.
And with schools having just gone back across the region, police will be paying particular attention to parents dropping off or picking up their children
Under current legislation, drivers are responsible for ensuring that suitable safety restraints are worn by all passengers under 14 years old. Children must use an appropriate child car restraint for their weight until they are 135cm tall or their 12th birthday, whichever is first.
As seatbelts do not fit children correctly, an appropriate child car restraint is needed to offer the same level of protection as a seatbelt does for adults. Passengers over 14 years are responsible for wearing their own seatbelt and can therefore face prosecution.
Failing to wear a seatbelt now carries a penalty of £100, should motorists be given an on-the-spot fine. Prosecution can lead to a maximum fine of up to £500.

“BikeWise has become a popular attraction not only for motorcycle enthusiasts but also for many others who just enjoy a great day out.”

Sgt Iain Rodgers head of the BikeWise team said: “BikeWise has been a tremendous success over the years and has helped our efforts to improve road safety.
“However, motorcyclists remain among the most vulnerable of our road users and there are important messages to take away from the event to help keep them safe on the roads.”

Tell the world (your friends, family & colleagues)

Click HERE to find out about BikeWise 2015

Please remember to tell your friends, family and colleagues at work that BikeWise is taking place THIS Sunday at the new Police HQ.

This is the 21st BikeWise show and the first at the new Police HQ which is located in the same area as the old one at Aykley Heads, Durham DH1 5TT. Durham Constabulary is opening its doors to all members of the public young and old to come and enjoy a spectacular day of fun.

When the show was first launched in 1995 it was as a means of engaging with motorcyclists in the area, breaking down ‘barriers’ & helping to provide information in relation to rider safety & motorcycle crime. These aims have been achieved beyond our dreams and Durham Constabulary is seen by many as the most ‘biker friendly force in the country

However the  show has grown over the twenty years it has been running and now has something of interest for ALL the family, not just the motorcycling orientated members…

Every year we get message and phone calls after the event from people who didn't know the show had been on, so this year we’re asking if you can take a couple of minutes today to let friends, family & work colleagues know that the BikeWise show is on THIS Sunday.

Admission for adults is as usual £2 with children admitted free

Full details of parking arrangements and all the attractions at the show can be found by CLICKING ON THE IMAGE ABOVE or  visiting www.bikewise.org.uk  or then clicking on the BikeWise 2015 icon
