JBA Trailers – hire a trailer…..

JBA Trailers JBA Trailers are located in Seaham, Co Durham (see location map for details). They are a small family business and currently have four types of trailer for hire: up to 3 bike motorcycle trailer, box trailer and 2 types of boat trailers. They run this business part time from their home address.

Whether you want to transport a boat, motorbike, move items between houses, go camping with your tent(s), motorcycles and all the other bits for a family holiday or you've just bought something off ebay and are wondering how to bring it home - one of our trailers will surely meet your needs.
All trailers are maintained in excellent condition with lights and tyres checked and the trailer cleaned before every hire.  The motorcycle trailer is supplied with tie down straps at no additional charge.
When you call to either enquire or make a booking, they will provide advice to help ensure a trailer will meet your needs, then will take you through the booking process to reserve the trailer for the dates you require.

The firm is operated by Benson Adams & Sarah Linley who have both attended a BikeWise Training day and will offer 20% discount to anyone who has also attended a BikeWise Training day.

Help support a charity cycle ride in memory of PC 1444 Chris Barber

Blog Header CB2

The club's 'root's' were laid down in April 2009 to record the 'antic's' of the hardy souls.... who initially rode the Coast to Coast cycle ride on the 11-13th September 2009.
The ride was in aid of St Teresa's Hospice, Woodland Road, Darlington, where Mr 'Absolutely Average' - PC 1444 Chris Barber (firearms) was cared for, by his wife Ann, family members & staff of the hospice before he sadly died, of cancer, after a short illness on the 5th April 2009.  The ride was a great success and raised £10,254.47.

Chris was Durham Police’s Firearms expert and many of you might have been to a visit to the armoury at Police HQ or seen the Firearms demonstrations Chris put on at BikeWise every year.
As a result of this and the friendship that came from within the group it was decided to continue cycling and so ‘The Absolutely Average Cycling Club’ came into being.

(For those of you who knew Chris, you will be aware that this was one of his favourite sayings)

This year on the 3rd-5th of September the group are to cycle from Edinburgh to Newcastle on the Coasts & Castles Cycle Route, approx 200mls on a pedal cycle !!

Because we are all ‘absolutely average’ cyclists we decided to rename the route the Coast, CAKES & Castles 2010 route. (as hopefully we’ll be stopping for some Cake to ‘ease’ the saddle sores !!)

Once again the aim is to raise some funds for St Teresa’s Hospice in Darlington. Sadly it’s usually only when we are effected by someone being admitted to a hospice that we see the fantastic work that is being done to help families through traumatic times.

St Teresa’s certainly helped Chris & his family when he most needed it.

Please, if you can, visit our Just Giving page and make a donation to the Hospice, you can donate as little as £1 and it will help make our journey worthwhile and also to remember a first class colleague who was sadly taken away from us with cancer.

Please click on this link to read more and donate :   Just Giving

To keep up to date with how the ride is progressing visit : Coast, CAKES and Castles 2010

Please come along on your bikes (Motorbikes or pedal bikes) and cheer us on our way… Next Sunday (5th) September we will be on the last leg from Seahouses to Newcastle where we’ll finish on the Millenium Bridge)

Thanks

Bob Brown

This is Funny...

Sorry.... This has nothing at all to do with BikeWise but it is funny !!
The more you watch it the more you'll laugh....

What is happening in the BikeWise 'world' over the next couple of weeks

Beware of new surface dressing !! (Weardale)

If you are going to be out and about in Weardale (A689rd) on your bike – be aware that there is a lot of re-surfacing going on ‘up the dale’

Last week two local motorcyclists were involved in a crash with a car between Frosterley and Wolsingham, when it appears that the car has gone out of control on the loose chippings and collided with the motorcyclists who were travelling in the opposite direction. Extensive resurfacing has now been done between the A68 Harperley roundabout and A689 Wolsingham – Please Take Care…..

Ridewell 2010

Cleveland Police's 10th  'Ridewell' event takes place on Sunday 11th July - Due to ongoing development at Preston Hall, the Ridewell team are proud to announce that this years event will be held at the prestigious Wynyard Hall.
This year will see a stunning motorcycle display from the IMPS. For those not familiar with the team they consist of riders in ages from as low as 5years old! performing amazing stunts. The Imps have performed all over the UK and this summer will be performing at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, the Highland Tattoo at Inverness and at St Truiden Belgium together with a number of other events.
Also this year we are pleased to announce that not one but two of the Countrys most popular and successful Race Teams will be returning to Ridewell for the second year, albeit one in different livery. Rob McElnea is bringing his new look Rob Mac Racing team here for the day so come along and meet the team and take a close look at some of the Race Bikes which will be competing in this years British Superbike Championship in the hands of Dan Linfoot and Ian Lowry.
Also here on the day will be the new look Swan Racing Hondas, previously Hydrex Honda. The bikes you will see will be campaigned this year in the British Superbike Championship by Stuart Easton and James Ellison. Come along and have a look at the bikes and speak to some of the riders.

Stormin The Castle

Our local Bikeshow is back to it's traditional home of Witton Castle for it's 20th running on the 3rd, 4th & 5th September.
As well as top bands performing throughout the weekend there is, on the Saturday afternoon the Custom Bike Show. As the name implies this is a bike show for custom & classic bikes (and trikes).
This includes any motorcycle which has been extensively modified, preferably by the owner. It must involve more than the fitting of one or two small custom parts.
A machine which has been carefully rebuilt to standard specifications does not fall into the Custom category. Neither do bikes which can be bought from specialist ‘Branded’ companies on a ‘made to order’ basis.
The Classic Section includes anything which was manufactured over 25 years ago.

“Bikes of Notable Interest” An area, just outside the main show, will be provided where bikes which do not fit the show categories, and are ineligible to be judged in the show, can be displayed.
Entry
To enter the bike in the show, bring it along to the Show Control between 9.00am and 4.00pm on the Saturday of the event.
ALL BIKES MUST HAVE:- A CURRENT ROAD TAX DISC AND BE RIDDEN ONTO THE SITE.
For full details of the event visit the website at : http://storminthecastle.co.uk/news/custom-bike-show/

The evolution of a Swan Honda (Polini) - BikeWise Mini Bike Club

BikeWise Mini Bike Club member Paul Henshaw and his dad Mick have been busy turning a red coloured Polini 910 into a Swan Honda replica. This is how they did it :"Before painting starts, the original Polini bodywork needs to be prepared by removing all stickers and rubbing down the original paintwork. Parts are then primed using a good quality primer. A poor start will only result in a poor finish. After the primer has cured, the parts are then given a white base coat (picture 1). "Before painting starts, the original Polini bodywork needs to be prepared by removing all stickers and rubbing down the original paintwork. Parts are then primed using a good quality primer. A poor start will only result in a poor finish. After the primer has cured, the parts are then given a white base coat (picture 1). The main base colour of this particular paint scheme is yellow, so after the white base coat has dried, it is rubbed down and given three coats of yellow. Then we begin with the graphics (picture 2) starting at the top or bottom, leaving the middle to last (pictures 3 and 4).When the parts are dry enough to handle, we then mask off the middle colour (pictures 5 and 6).After allowing the graphics to dry, any lettering and pinstriping are then airbrushed on. The parts are then checked making sure everything lines up and is correct before lacquering (picture 7).All of the paintwork is protected with a good 3 to 4 coats of good quality 2K lacquer (pictures 8-11).2K lacquer only needs 24 hours to dry before handling, so the bike can be reassembled the next day. All paints used on this bike are from House of Kolor, which all carry health warnings.Pictures 12 and 13 show bike before and after."

Visit Hein Gericke, Darlington's 7th birthday party this Saturday (3rd July)

Saturday 3rd July sees the 7th birthday of Hein Gericke Darlington and to mark the occasion the team have some special events in the planning.

To mark the occasion and ensure it is an event to remember they have arranged for the 'xtreme wheelie machine' to be on site all day. This is a specially designed platform with a real motorcycle, normally a Kawasaki ZX6R strapped to it on which you can have a go at the black art of pulling a huge stonker of a wheelie, in total safety with no threat of flipping it! You will need a full bike licence and be over 18 to ride. Free to ride with all purchases over £10. (But we need photo's of you on it for our Gallery !!)

The day promises to be excellent fun so why not call in grab a coffee and doughnut.
Mick & Bob from BikeWise Training and Ali from the bike section will be there all day to answer any questions you have for them (or to book your BikeWise Training course)
