BikeWise 2008 - Thank You!

None of us can believe how popular the event has become in what must surely have been the best attended event yet!
In fact the bike park had filled up completely and the car parks at County Hall had to be brought into action to accommodate all the visitors. And what a day … it was especially satisfying to see that visitors were not simply wandering around and leaving but were actually staying for hours making a full day of it and soaking up the atmosphere. Of course no event of this type can pass off without a great deal of goodwill and generosity from a whole host of individuals, businesses and local authorities who support and in many cases sponsor the event by offering their services up without charge. Please take some time to just have a look at our sponsors in the page from the 2008 event section to give you some idea, it would be fair to say that countless others have helped us and to you all from the bike section a big thank you!The biggest thank you however, goes to those of you that visited us.Without your support the BikeWise event would never have evolved into what we had yesterday. The most important objective of the day for us though is that by encouraging riders to think about for their own riding and made drivers to more bike aware then we will have prevented future accidents and undoubtedly saved lives.
From all of the Durham Police Bike Section team - Remember… 'Wait A Second', ride safe and we'll see you at the 2009 event!

Next Meeting - Tuesday 24th June

4th meeting at Warden Law - Tuesday 24th June.....
The management at Karting North East have kindly agreed to allow us the use of the circuit even though they could earn more by allowing Karts to use it.... They are, after all, a commercial venue and need to generate income to pay wages etc, so the support of club members at the circuit is vital if we are to continue to be allowed to run there..
Last meeting at Warden Law was 'washed out' due to heavy rain (even then Don & Chris Churchill turned up to ride and Joan to watch... now that's what I call committment)
Hopefully this time we might get a bit of the sunshine we had at Carrville.

Win a Free BikeWise Training Course

To help you learn how to raise your standard by getting the most out of your machine and staying safe on the roads we have lined up three training sessions with BikeWise Training

This would normally cost £150 for a full day but can be yours completely free by entering the competition and answering three questions the answers to which can be found on the BikeWise website

The winner will receive a full day of one to one tuition from an experienced police advanced motorcycle instructor with ongoing comprehensive debriefing and a certificate.

All you need to enter is a full motorcycle licence and a suitable machine in excess of 400cc.

The winners will be announced at the BikeWise event at Durham police HQ on the 27th July 2008 and their names will appear on the website.

Next Meeting - Sunday 4th May 2008

Next Meeting will be held at Black & Deckers - yes, indoor..... on Sunday 4th May, sign on 10am for a 1030 am start.

This will be our last indoor meeting as we will be going outdoor to the Carrville 'Park & Ride' after this where we can set up a decent sized track on tarmac... (I hope we have a better 'summer' than last year)

Any help would be appreciated at the end of the meeting as all the cones will need collecting in and put into vans to take back to Police HQ and then unloaded and stacked up there... ( Mick & I will still be busy at midnight if we have to do it all ourselves :-) )

Facebook members, please RSVP to the invitation to attend the event and then we know you're attending (or not) without having to ring around.

ACU licence renewals are required by some of our long standing members, please check your dates and bring forms etc with you so that we can get the renewals sorted out. If you are not licensed then you are not authorized to ride under the ACU guidelines...
