We will be short of help from the police side as most of the BikeWise Team will be down in London – policing the Cycling events at the Olympic Games – so any help setting up, marshalling etc would be greatly appreciated.

Going for Gold…..

london-2012-olympic-games Most of the ‘BikeWise Team’ will be heading south on two wheels tomorrow to help Police the Olympic Games……

The team will be performing duties at the road based cycling events which will include the men's and ladies Road Races and Individual Time Trial events, which will be held this Saturday & Sunday and then next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Look out for the Durham Police FJR’s on your TV screens as our riders rub shoulders with Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish & co (although I wouldn't want to sprint against ‘Cav’ even on a FJR !!)

No doubt the team will have some interesting stories and photo's of the events, when they return home late next week.

Here’s hoping they at least get a bit more sunshine down south than we’ve been having recently

Team 2

OK… it’s taken us three weeks to deliver BUT……   you’re getting Three Thousand + photo’s to browse through (3000+) so it might take you more than three weeks to view them Smile

Many Thanks to the members of Durham Photographic Society (and in particular John Attle) who spent the day at the show taking photo’s,  therefore giving us a lasting record of the 2012 event.

Motorcycle Fatalities fell last year

Image_08_-_1155x768pxMotorcycle fatalities fell by 10% last year despite an increase in use, according to government figures.
It’s the second major drop in two years, after rider deaths fell 15% in 2010.
There were 362 motorcyclists killed in road accidents in 2011 compared to 403 the year before.
Meanwhile motorcycle traffic rose 0.9% in the same period.
Motorcyclists are doing better at cutting fatalities than other road users, with deaths from all road accidents up 3%, the first increase since 2003.
But serious injuries to riders rose by 10% while total motorcycle casualties increased 8%.
Compared to the annual average from 2005-2009, rider deaths are down 33%.
We are proud of the results we have achieved in our area with the BikeWise initiative which has now been running since 1995 and we offer post test training with our own BikeWise Training and also through the Durham Advanced Motorcyclists. Our casualty statistics are consistently low, however, one casualty is one too many, so please be BikeWise and ride safe.
